Proposal
The project involves the conversion of an existing high street retail unit into a modern dental practice. The proposed development will repurpose the shop floor to accommodate two fully equipped dental surgery rooms, a dedicated decontamination (DCON) room, a staff room, and a welcoming reception and waiting area. The design aims to create a functional and hygienic clinical environment that meets all relevant regulatory and healthcare standards, while also providing a comfortable and professional setting for both patients and staff. The layout and finishes will be carefully considered to ensure efficient workflow, infection control compliance, and a high-quality patient experience.

On this project, we provided the client with comprehensive structural engineering design services, contract administration, and project management. Our scope included carrying out a detailed structural survey of the existing building, identifying and designing strengthening solutions for existing structural defects. We developed the structural design for the internal remodelling, including knock-through openings in load-bearing walls to accommodate the dental surgeries. This also involved strengthening the existing floor to support heavy plant and dental equipment. We coordinated closely with the plumber and electrician, and prepared builders’ work and interface (BWI) drawings showing service penetrations through floors and walls. Our efficient design and proactive project management resulted in significant cost savings for the client and contributed to securing local authority planning approval, Building Regulations compliance, and successful Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration.
